When planning and designing a new bedroom, most os us initially focus on style and colour of the walls and furniture. We then tend to focus on decor, what colour bedding and accessories to choose and of course the furniture and storage options we need.

Equally as important, is to consider what lighting you want in the room and what mood you want it to create. These considerations will likely differ from the focus of creating a relaxing lighting for the evening, which may be dimmer and softer lighting, to having practical and good lighting for getting dressed and doing your make-up. Your bedroom design should be a balance of style and the ambiance and mood you wish to create, after all it is your own personal space. The lighting will really make the room homely and be the perfect finishing touch.

Rekax – You may wish to relax in bed with your favourite book in the evening, you will need good lighting, but perhaps not want the entire room lit brightly. A bedside light or under bridge unit lighting may be a good option.

Compliment your bedroom – Ceiling spot lights or feature lighting or inset into furniture will compliment the contemporary bedroom. More traditional style bedrooms may benefit from bedside lighting or under bridge unit lighting. Whatever lighting you choose, it should be relaxing and subtle.

Remember Practical Lighting – When you need to find things in a hurry, good lighting is essential. When applying make-up you will need to see clearly. Lighting inset into the wardrobes and above a dressing table or mirror will be ideal when getting ready.

Feature Lighting – Illuminating a particular feature will be a complimentary addition to the style of your new bedroom.

Whatever lighting options you choose, it should be versatile and compliment the style of your new bedroom. It needs to be both practical and also create the perfect atmosphere for you to relax, in your newly designed bedroom.
